The village radio was originally issued with the destruct button. This
to prevent enemy use if captured. In addition, the South Vietnamese were
ordered to return to base if they lost radio contact. What was happening
was that they would go a half a kilometer into the jungle, press the
destruct button and come back in. Shortly after that, the destruct
button was removed. My understanding was that it reversed polarity to
the circuit bard and fried the components.
It is a rare set. If you do not want it, Keith Melton is looking for one
of these sets.
