Any cap that is now 50+ years old gets cut out and replaced regardless of
brand, type, etc. The only exceptions are electrolytics that don't cause hum or
heat up, caps in tuned circuits, and disc or button type ceramics. Anything
otherwise hits the dumpster ASAP!! In fact, when I acquire a new (to me) tube
set I automatically replace all the old caps right off the bat without even
turning the set on first. Why waste time troubleshooting when it is likely that
replacing all the caps is going to resolve any problem anyway ? I'am just
super careful making sure everything goes back in the right spots AND I have a
schematic /manual available. Never ever had a problem doing it this way.
