Hi Al,
Nice page. The tool looks real handy and worth making. I use a similar but 
not as elegant a method.
I wrap the lead of the new component around a heavy sewing needle about 4 
or 6 times. they usually have enough lead so you have about  1/4 or 1/2" of 
wire to hold against the needle with your thumb to get a tight wrap. I 
dress the stub I'm going to solder to with a bit of steel wool. In tight 
spots you may need to put the steel wool  between the jaws of the needle 
nose pliers and go slow but it makes for fast soldering. Would be nice to 
get hold of a box of them Quigs.
