[Hallicrafters] SX-100 alignment questions

Hi,
    Before alignment of a SX-100 Mk-1A receiver, all bands and S-meter 
worked.  I first aligned the BC band and everything peaked up fine.  
Then I aligned the high band (12 - 34 MC) and again peaking specified 
Cs and Ls was fine.  Then I went to the 4.6 - 13 MC band and it seemed 
dead - no peaking or indication at all.  Same with the 1.72 - 4.9 MC 
band.
    Now the BC band works (with poor sensitivity) and the S-meter shows 
no indication.  All other bands appear dead.
    My question is - what went wrong (and where do I look)?  Does the BC 
band bypass the first RF and is the first RF needed in the S-meter 
circuit?
