[Hallicrafters] S40 Help again please!

Well, the S40 is working fine now, except the BC band is SEVERLY 
mis-aligned! I suspect someone has messed about with the oscillator coil 
at some time. I have the manual, and have followed the alignmet 
directions, but suspect the coil has been severly de-tuned...the trimmer 
and padder can't seem to be adjusted for proper tracking, no matter how 
many times I go back and forth, and I  can't seem to get things to line 
up on the dial. The other bands seem pretty close , so I think it best 
just to leave them.

Where do I start?  Trimmer?? Padder?? Coil??

I'm sure someone out there must have run into the same frustration.
