I ran across an oddity yesterday and wish to share it.

A very nice Zenith Trans-Oceanic reciever to make work. I did my usual 

and replaced most of the striped black things and out of curiosity
checked the esr

of the four units in the electrolytic can capacitor, they all said open. 

Then for some reason I checked from one cap to the other

this test said good, each cap to another gave a good reading on the esr
meter.

conclusion--the common lead from all 4 caps had opened up in the can!!

just the jumper from one to the other was still ok.
