I wonder if anyone remembers the article by Larson E. Rapp on shortened
dipoles? Basically, his theory was this: We have all seen the classic voltage and
current plot of a dipole. The current peaks at the middle, and the voltage
peaks at the ends. (Or is it the other way around? ) Anyway, Larson then goes
on to show what happens to the V/I curve when you cut the ends off the
antenna. He then states that, "The problem is NOT that the antenna was made
shorter, but the WRONG PIECES were removed." This is backed up by an E/I plot. His
proposal is that the antenna should be shortened by cutting the pieces out of
the MIDDLE. And sure enough, the E/I plot looks much better!
We should all immediately begin saving on antenna wire!
