>From my experience, Krylon aerosols have been a very reliable means of
painting smaller surfaces with quite consistent and satisfactory
results...Unfortunately, some of the products particularly interesting to us
who want to refinish Hallicrafters gear are difficult to find in single can
lots on the shelf...This is due--in part--to the marketing decisions that
have taken place within Krylon (which is, by the way, wholly owned by
Sherwin-Williams).

As has been mentioned on this list and elsewhere, the two Krylon aerosol
paint colors that seem to be the best match for the SX-100 lid and cabinet
are:

Krylon 1403 Dull Aluminum -- For the hinged lid (and this you already knew)
Krylon 2206 Dark Anodized Bronze -- For the cabinet

I've used the 1403 and agree with your observations...it is a near perfect
color and sheen match to the original color and sheen of the perforated lid.

Availability (what I know from some research conducted in Nov 2004):

Dull Aluminum 1403 is readily available from a number of paint vendors,
including the Ace Hardware chain...This paint was part of the General
Purpose paint collection, a group of paint colors selected by Krylon
marketing managers to sell to craft stores, hardware stores, discount
department stores, etc.

Dark Anodized Bronze 2206 is more difficult to find because it was part of
Krylon's Professional coatings collection, again a group of paint colors
selected by Krylon marketing managers to offer to their industrial end-user
and reseller accounts...You won't commonly find it at curbside
retailers...Inquiries I've made to these dealers about special ordering a
case-lot of 6 cans has been without positive results...They're not
interested...And so far, I've not spent much time to find an industrial
supply reseller in the Houston area that carries Krylon 2206...I have found
that, presently, you can order it from two or three web-based resellers, but
only in case-lots (6 cans per case)...I haven't done this yet.

Availability update?

Now having said that, it seems that product realignment at the hands of
Krylon marketing sages continues, but the most recent catagorizing has both
1403 and 2206 in the Special Purpose group...The sub-category is simply
Krylon Metalics in a very confusing group of products...
I'm not sure, in the near future, how this product realignment may affect
availability of 2206 in single can lots at your local brick-and-mortar
retailer.

If anyone out there in Halli-land knows something different as to a readily
available, confirmed source for single cans of Krylon 2206, please share
with interested list members.

Bruce
