Hi Bill,
I'm doing a similar thing here in Australia with my Eddystone 770R VHF
receiver.
The 770R has a reputation of being a little deaf in comparison to new VHF
receivers.
I've connected a TV antenna preamplifier which really lifts up the
sensitivity of the set and makes it a joy to use.
Regards
Peter
