[Hallicrafters] SX-101A RF Calibration Question

Hi Mark,
      2 thoughts -
    1. to solve your 13kc error for the hi end of 40m band, use the xtal
calibrator at 7300 & adjust the pointer with it's knob. You'll still have
the span error, but for tuning the AM secn of the band you wouldn't have
to do the mental gymnastics. (just call it field expediency)
    2. You can't adjust the span with only one variable. I haven't read
the manual (lately), but they're assuming the span doesn't change (that's
why they soldered down the trimmmer), and they're just adjusting one
endpoint. To change the span you must (and can) unsolder the trimmer -
after ~50 yrs, things will change.
There's been a great series of articles on the SX-101A in Electric
Radio by Ray, N0DMS, for the last 4 issues. He covers just about
everything needed to know for completely refurbishing these great rcvrs,
including unsoldering these RF osc. trimmers to adjust the span. He
covers the various non-clear portions of the manual's alignment
procedures. It's well worth the price of a subscription if you are
planning any work on a 101. I know I need to get into mine sooner rather
than later, even tho' it does a reasonable job as is now.

Guys --

Thanks for the comments.

However, what I wanted confirmation on was that I'm interpreting the
manual correctly and should be adjusting L8.

I'm used to adjusting a trimmer to set the spread, but the manual says
to adjust L8.

Of course, any and all comments welcomed !!!
