[Hallicrafters] Cat Urine

Greetings: Cats originated as a desert animal. In order to conserve
water, their urine is highly concentrated. As such, it has a
powerful odor and can be quite corrosive to metals. There are two ways
to make cat urine go away. One is to flush it with copious amounts of
water or possibly glass cleaner. But it will take a tremendous amount to
dilute the urine. Of course, the more water hosed on your radio
equipment the greater the risk to the equipment's post bath survival.
NEVER use bleach or anything containing ammonia. They will only
succeed in making the smell worse!

The second option is to use an enzymatic cleaner. These can be
purchased at any pet store. A very popular and effective one is called
"Nature's Miracle". The enzymatic cleaner will actually change the
chemical nature of the urine and neutralize it. You will still have to
rinse the equipment, but the chance of leaving smell in cracks and
niches is greatly reduced. I have found Nature's Miracle to be kind to
paint and sound lettering. Can't say about every plastic in the world
because I have not tried them all. The end result is to change the
urine into a neutral, non-smelling residue and then wash it away.
