Mike,

This is a good reason to be thorough. Tightening the screws did the trick 
for you. There are other things to do:

1) Apply a bit of De-Oxit around the socket, loosen it and rub the thing 
against the chassis, then tighten the screws.

2) (More drastic) Get a 200 watt American Beauty and a wire brush. Clean 
the chassis and socket well and SOLDER the thing down.

One fellow reported troubles in his TMC GPR-90 receiver.  He found bad 
connections between many of the terminal strip grounding/mounting tabs and 
the chassis, and more between tube socket rings and the chassis.  His 
solution was to solder them all, repeat all, to the chassis. The Weller 
8100 solder gun will not work. You nee a monster solder iron.  (I have not 
done that to my GPR-90 but I expect to.)
