Paul,
Small metal screw drivers are perfectly acceptable to use to adjust
trimmers. Ordinarily they will cause no detuning effect. You should know
if the trimmer is electrically hot before adjusting. Some are. If the
trimmer is hot, the blade should have a length of tubing on it to insulate.
This keeps the screw driver from shorting the trimmer and it keeps you from
getting shocked. I've been bitten more than once by not paying attention.

Was trying to do an IF alignment on an S38D, came to the point to adjust the
trimmers in the metal cans, however the plastic Radio Shack alignment tools
were not up to the task. Any recommendations on what is an approriate device
to adjust the IF with.
