[Hallicrafters] S40 question

The "doorknob" tube was probably a 717A.  It could be substituted for a 6CG7
RF amp ( I think that's the right one ) and appeared to improve the
reception. I put one in my SX-99 and signals were "louder".    It may have
just had a tad more gain, or, maybe a different AGC response.
