Allied radio gave novice classes at 110 N. Western for free in the late
1950's and early 60's at the store. I took my first test before the FCC
right there. You could drive up to the store , and park outside,
nobody bothered your car or you , you could leave the windows down on
your car while you shopped. As I recall, most stuff, especially the RCA
tubes was out on the floor, although you still had to order stuff at the
counter. The last time I was there it was a war zone, there was a tall
barbed wire topped fence around the place and it was hazardous to even
drive in the neighborhood. One reason I moved to Texas where you can
carry a gun and men are men and the women are great.
