Applying decals to a non-smooth or textured surface is not a big deal at 
all. Go to the hobby shop and get a bottle of "Solvaset Decal Softener". 
This will allow the decal to "flow" onto the surface. I used this when I 
applied decals to my model railroad trolley cars and miniature buildings 
and it works great.

If you do a google search on "Solvaset", you find lots of techniques for 
using this.

I have found a number of techniques from my other hobbies to be useful 
in radio restoration.
