[Hallicrafters] 70 Year Old Spelling Error

Back in the days when a high school education in the United States meant that
the students really had to learn information and pass exams, one required
subject was Latin. As the years went by, it was no longer mandatory and a
foreign language became an elective, generally Spanish, French or German.
One advertising gimmick was to intentionally misspell simple words. The idea was
to cause the reader to spend more time looking at the ad because they spotted
what they thought was an error. They pointed it out to family members, friends
etc. Each time the product got more potential customer exposure and it
strengthened the buyer recognition by name association reinforcement. The idea
in advertising is to cause a specific product to be associated with a word. Such
as "Catsup". What product came into your mind first? That is what they strive
for, that first image in your mind that you associate the word "Catsup" with!
That is almost always the one the customer will purchase.
Bill has just proven to all of us how good that old advertising ploy was, and in
fact, still is.
Nowadays advertisers use more picture associations, as frankly, less Americans
can read, write and spell than forty years ago. Seventy years ago it was
generally the professionals with 'money' who could read, so advertisers aimed
where the money was. Nowadays, it is probably just a typo that the spell checker
failed to correct for the dumb human using it!

A short time ago, I received a very good condition, Hallicrafters S-5 sales
brochure. In this 14 page booklet, is a schematic of the S-5. I never
really looked at it closely until today when I scanned it at 600dpi.
Brightened it up with a graphics program and took a close look at the title
block, lower right hand corner. There's the date, a signature and other
information. There is also and error.
Someone, and probably a lot of other never caught a glaring spelling error.
In the title block of an S-5 receiver built in 1935, it says: "Modle S-5".
A 70 year old spelling error.
I hate myself for being so darn (insert proper word here).
