Craig -

Despite your current(no pun intended?) preference, take a look at the
SBE (original Orange Drops) page:

http://www.sbelectronics.com/

There is a wealth of information there on capacitor types and
applications. Check under Application notes and Technology. Hell, just
roam around the site - it has a lot of great info. (o:

Someone had asked recently about Orange Drops and why so many use
them. Well, aside from being a great product, they are also made right
here in the good ol' USA. In fact, right over in Barre VT, about 15
minutes from where I'm sitting right now. It's the original Sprague
Barre plant taken over by Perry Browning and a partner, later sold to
Ed Sawyer, a ham from 8-Land or there abouts. He moved here and bought
the company a few years ago.

As far as quality, it's always been first rate for me (I still have
boxes full in my basement to sort through). I do agree that they
aren't the best choice for every application due to size and design,
but check out their other products. They've made axial lead tubulars
for years. Not sure of the size or ratings, but it should all be
there.

No matter which manufacturer you choose, there is some very helpful
information there with respect to types/designs.
