[Hallicrafters] Why I'm a Hallicrafters Guy

I can't resist adding my two-cent's worth to the discussion. My Elmer had a Halli S40B receiver (and a Viking II xmitter), and he complained often about its drifting tendencies. He advised me to not buy a Hallicrafters receiver because he thought they all drifted way too much. As a new novice, I was tremendously impressed by the SX-99 (appearance, mainly!), and wanted it badly for my station. So I went to another ham in my hometown, and asked him for his opinion. Although he had all Collins equipment, he said that the SX-99 should work out well for me. So after finding an opinion that agreed with mine, I went ahead and bought the SX-99. I was never sorry to buy the halli, and used it for many years first with a DX-40 and then with an HT-20 (which I still have and use). Later I bought an SX-146 receiver and have added an HT-46 to go with it, an SX-101A, HT-37 and SX-100 - all operational and used from time to time.
While I also have Drake equipment and use it regularly, I still love the old Hallis. They have an undefinable attraction, and I enjoy both seeing and using them!
