[Hallicrafters] HT-37 problem

120 watts output is way too much for an HT-37! A pair
of 6146 tubes usually put out around 100 watts on 80
meters when new and around 85 to 90 watts on 10
meters. If you are pushing the tubes to 120 watts
output you are seriously reducing their life. The guy
on the other end can't tell the difference between 120
watts and 100 watts (or even 80 watts). But, your
6146 tubes can sure tell the difference!
For the article on the 6146 family of tubes that
appeared in Electric Radio a while back (and has been
reprinted in several other publications) go to either
website the URL of which is listed at the end of this
message.
As for problems, I would definitely believe that
something in the audio chain has gone, or, in the
balanced modulator.

Mic gain control all the way up and whistling, got me
~ 75 watts. Used to be 120 watts with mic gain set at
6. Tried (3) different mic's, same problem. Mic's
work in DSB mode.
I get full power output in CW ~ 120 watts and ~ 50
watts in DSB so it does not seem to be an RF problem.
