Coax is one thing, Ladder line is another. Coax needs only a hole big
enough for it's connector to pass through. If you are going through normal
thickness walls, you can get long barrel PL-259 type connectors at RF
Connections and other places.
Ladder line should not pass nearer than five to ten times its conductor
spacing from any metal, and may carry very high voltages at different
points along it's length.
I replaced one cellar window pane with Plexiglas. Now I can easily drill
holes for coax feed - through connectors and for five way binding posts for
my ladder lines. The line solders to the bottom of the binding posts on
the outside and inside I use standard three quarter inch connectors for
hooking up the antenna to my tuner, or to ground when not in use.
The second floor of my house overhangs the first floor by a foot and a
half at the rear, and I have installed Fiberglas electric fence posts to
hold my ladder line away from the aluminum siding of the upper story. I
drilled holes to hold the same fence posts in the brick siding where
needed, and fastened the fence post into the hole with a wedge of
wood. Tie wraps fasten the ladder line to the end of the post through
holes drilled in the shaft.
Do wear gloves at all times when handling Fiberglas fence posts, they will
give you splinters if you don't.
