[Hallicrafters] New QTH

I have the same thing here.
I went to Home Depot and got one of the cable
entry units used to bring the 2240 VAC into the
meter. It fits on the end of the conduit above the
roof. I found it would fit on the end of a piece
of plastic pipe approximately 2 inch diameter.
It clamps on. I drilled several holes in the wall
in a pattern to pass the plastic pipe.
I used caulking compound to seal the hole
around the pipe. Through the cement block wall
I used patching cement mixed reeeal thick on the
outside and paintable caulking on the inside of
walls.
The header outside allows several cables to pass
through. I used fiberglass insulation stuffed into
the pipe from the inside to seal it from the weather.
On the outside the header was mounted so the
cable entry was facing the ground. That allows
drip loops in all the cables.
It is easy to remove the cover on the outside and
run or remove cables as you change your station.
I have so many cables I had to use two headers
and pipes through the wall.
As to the tree, I would put the center of the
antenna up at the highest point and run the
antenna as an inverted vee. To get the antenna
up there is the fun. I have a small crossbow with
blunt bolts(arrows) to which I tie glass line and
shoot the bolt over the limb of choice. I then
pull up the antenna support line and bring it
back to make it a continuous loop
Up to 40 feet I use an 18 inch piece of 1-1/4"
plastic pipe with a right angle on one end with
a short 2 inch piece of pipe on the opposite
end from the 18 inch pipe. I put a pipe cap on
each end. Before sealing the caps, I filled the
pipe with dry sand. I tie the end of 100 foot of
3/8" nylon to the pipe at the right angle.
I can hold the end of the 18 inch pipe and
throw it up underhand about 35 to 40 feet.
You can get more height if you swing the pipe
from the rope and launch it. Take more practice
that way. Be sure to wear a hard hat- I have the
bumps to show what happens when the pipe
bounces off the tree and/or swings in the wind.

Healthfully yours,
                          DON W4BWS

Subject: [Hallicrafters] New QTH

Hello,

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with.

First, My new Shack is in a converted garage, with more space than I have
ever had in the past. My question is, what is the best way to make a hole
for coax/450 ohm ladder line to leave the shack? I just finished framing
and thought about usiung PVC pipe. How would I insulate it? Is there a
better way?

Second, there are two trees on my new QTH. They are around 60 feet apart (40
meter dipole). One is around 60 feet high, the other is maybe 30 feet (build
a sloper). The 60 footer would be the highest antenna that I have ever had.
I want to get one end of a dipole some where near the top. How do I get
wire/rope that high? I have seen in the past a device that is a combination
sling-shot/fishing reel. Are thay still available?

Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.
