The SX-101 has the same knobs and I noticed they were also either yellow
or brass colored.  Cleaning them brought back some of the aluminum color
so I think it may just be tarnish or cigarette smoke.  Try dipping them
in
a cleaner for a while and see if they "Come Clean".

I have a Mark 1A, and all the knob inserts are silver.  Do you know what

version you have?
