[Hallicrafters] An HT-37 "why"

Hi Y'all,

Another HT-37 "WHY".  I've checked the archives and didn't see the answer, 
though it was briefly mentioned.

Anybody know "why" Halligan's crew decided that an HT-37 didn't "need" a 
variable loading capacitor?  There is certainly sufficient room in the 
chassis for one, and you'd think that at a time when all The "Vikings", 
"Rangers" etc as well as even the most lowly Novice rig had variable loading 
capacitors, that a superior product like an HT-37 would have one too.
