Maybe the oscillator isn't working. If so, the receiver will be dead.  Use 
another short wave receiver to listen for it.  Put the antenna lead of that 
receiver close to the oscillator coils and tune it to the SX-25 frequency 
+/- 455 kHz.  It should resemble a strong carrier. Verify you are listening 
to the oscillator by tuning the SX-25 to another frequency.  The signal 
should disappear.

Practice on the third band first, so you don't have a cockpit error 
problem.  I'm talking about the mixer-oscillator oscillator, not the BFO.
