[Hallicrafters] My Wife has good taste <grin>

Hi Y'all,

Well, I finished recapping the SX-101 and played it awhile (without touching
the alignment). Just replacing those capacitors and cleaning the controls
and switches made a VAST difference in the overall performance of the set.
It actually seems to work as it should 8^)

My wife wasn't home when the SX-101 belonging to a friend arrived along with
it's mate, an HT-37 that is my "payment" for cleaning up the SX-101.
Anyway, I'd just finished removing and reinstalling the front panel and
knobs to clean the brown nicotine "yuck" from the dial, S meter etc when I
showed it to my wife. Now, this woman is a GREAT wife (of 32 years), but
has absolutely no interest in boatanchors! She took one look at the radio
and said "it was hers". I told her, "no, it belongs to a friend" and showed
her "my" HT-37. She said "I'd rather have that one", pointing at the
SX-101.

Now, let me ask you, does this woman have good taste or what? (She must
have, she married me ;-)

QUESTION on another point. The tuning on this set was quite stiff with NO
flywheel action at all while tuning. While I had the face off I thoroughly
cleaned, oiled and lubed the entire tuning mechanism. I used a light
synthetic grease on the gears (same as we use on VCR's at the shop). The
tuning is MUCH smoother, but it does NOT have the really free and smooth
feel that I'd expect of a tuning system having a heavy weighted knob AND a
flywheel. Is this normal?
