[Hallicrafters] SX-100 What's going on?

Glen is on target! Some receivers have riveted tube sockets that can't
be easily tightened. A resistance measurement from the socket ring to a
solid ground point can read tenths of an ohm instead of zero. If you
find that there are two choices:
1. drill out the rivet clean the chassis and replace with a bolt -nut
and toothed lockwasher.
2. run a very short wire from the offending socket ring to a solid
ground point.

A related problem on similar age sets is the wiper spring on variable
capacitors. Age and oxidation can cause poor connections there too,
often resulting in radios working in one part of the band and not
others. Here, if you can get to the fingers, some deoxit and a matchbook
cover can clean them up. If you can't reach, deoxit alone may do it if
you go bank and forth with the capacitor.

Good Luck,
Joel Hallas, W1ZR
