Correct! I have done the same thing.  Any diode with the ratings
Mark quoted will work.  However, make sure you check your voltage
levels after installation to be certain they are within specs.

  Should'nt be an issue, any general purpose
2.5 amp 1KV piv diode will work just
fine, I.E. a HEP-170, ECG-125, or
even a RCA SK3081 should be fine with
lots of reserve.
