Hi All:
I just joined the list in the hopes of getting more deeply into
Hallicrafters ham gear. Hallicrafters holds a special place in my heart,
because I first became interested in radio at age five when my uncle showed
me his SX-99 and let me play around with it. Ever since that first day of
tuning the bands, it became a tradition for years afterward for me to run
off to his den whenever I was excused from the dinner table and fire up the
'99. I inherited it more than twenty years ago, and it works fine to this
day. Anyway, enough of that.
Back in the '70s I owned a beautiful SR-400 Cyclone. I loved it, but
unfortunately during one of my short-sighted periods I let it go. I'm
toying with the idea of getting another one, but I'd like to know if it's
worth getting a '400A. I've not had much luck in finding out the
differences betwen the '400 and '400A, other than the Cyclone III had a bit
more output power. The higher power isn't important to me, but features and
functions are, particularly the notch and RIT, which I believe both versions
had. Can anyone tell me the major differences between the '400 and '400A,
or at least point me to a site where I could get the information? Power
output aside, were there any other improvements, like receiver performance,
etc? Any help would be appreciated.
73,
Jim
