[Hallicrafters] SX-100 arrives

I received a Hallicrafters SX-100 with a non match R-48A speaker.  The
Sx-100 looks good
and came with a set of spare tubes.  All tubes inside and out are supposed
to be good (we will see).

This SX-100 came with a partial book (missing pages 1 and 2 and the
schematic is cut up).  Two pages in the partial manual say SX-100 Mark I A
which is some where near mid stream.   I found that 20 and 40 meters was way
off on the general dial but once I found how far the band spread is very
close.  It compares very closely to my RME 6900.   The signals were also
comparable.

Two things I question...I have coax to the antenna terminal strip.  The
center goes to antenna 1 terminal but unsure of which to attach the shield.
I have found in the past that connecting to antenna 2 and using the jumper
to ground from 2 but could not tell much difference.  NO I have not knocked
out the plug and installed the coax connector (recommended in the December
1955 review in QST).   You Sx 100 experts tell me what works best.   Second
The S meter is stuck on 40 over 9 on or off.  After trying it for a couple
of hours I see in the partial manual that the S meter
is supposed to work only on AM.  Is that so? and if so I would guess with
the AVC on.

I looked on the back of the chassis and there is an area on the right where
a serial number might have gone.  There is just a piece of brown paper that
has been torn.  Is there a place inside where
the serial/model type might be shown.   I want to confirm this is a Model I
A.

The note is still attached to the bottom (this Rx has been set at the
factory etc).  And there is a
tube layout on the left side (from the front).  Wonder why they put it so
part of it is below the chassis compared to Hammarlund which has the tube
layout on the rear of the cabinet.  Even there you have to remove the
cabinet and turn it around (in both cases the same info is in the manual).
