I recently had similar symptoms (blown fuse few minutes after warm-up)
and checked all of the possibilities including shorts in one tube ...
really exercised my vast engineering and glowbugging knowledge and all
to no avail.

And then ... just when I was about to give up I noticed that wiggling
one of the finals caused the fuse to blow. The problem was a poor
connection from tube socket to grid pin, just plain old fashioned dirt
or grease or something. Sometimes too much education can be a
handicap!
