It's silly to compare an SX-73 and SX-88.  Two completely different 
radios.  Different markets, different receivers, totally different designs.

You are very fortunate.  But an SX-73 in "mint" condition in the current 
market -- unless of course you happen across the right poor dumb widow 
who didn't know what she had -- would command a much more lofty price 
..  And I'd bet you could find at least one person who got one free out a 
dumpster in perfect condition.

That's the problem.  There is always someone out there who got a mint 
KW-1 or Johnson Desk or something out of a landfill ....  The rest of the 
schmucks (me included sometimes) are unlikely to be so fortunate.  It's 
like the guys who argue endlessly that a Ranger isn't worth more than 
$25 because that's what they paid for one out of pity for the seller  in ''79  
.... :-)
