Subject: Transfer Letters
It is good to practice with these before using them "for real" because
technique is critical to good results. For starters be sure the surface
is very clean. I have found that a blunt #1 pencil makes an excellent
stylus. Secure the letter sheet in position so it won't move (it might
be necessary to cut the sheet apart to arrange this) then rub over the
whole letter lightly, avoiding the gaps to the extent possible. Go over
it progressively harder several times. If you start in too hard the
backing will distort and the letter will crack. Transfer letters that
are too old should be tossed because the wax base dries out and the
letters won't stick. If you must redo a letter you might need to clean
away the wax with a drop of rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip. Test before
trying that, of course.
Good Luck! (You may need it)
