[Hallicrafters] S-38

Frank,

I repainted my S38B with excellent results. In my case the pale green
lettering was excellent but the black paint of the case was poor.

I masked all of the lettering by carefully "painting" each letter with
a very fine brush, toothpick, sharpened piece of cardboard, or
equivalent using (no kidding) honey from the kitchen honey pot. The
honey was fluid enough to go on over the letters very precisely and
sticky enough to hold on ... but stiff enough to not run at all. The
coating of honey was pretty thin.

I used honey because it had the right consistency and it is water
soluble ... especially in warm water. After spraying the case
lightly, just enough to cover up the cosmetic problems but careful not
to use any more than that, I just held the case under a warm water
faucet. The honey (now covered with paint, of course) melted off
leaving the lettering nice and clean. It came out better than I could
have hoped .. like new.
