And my experience reading some of the bargain sites and forums on the
Internet indicate that GMRS is quickly becoming the place where unlicensed
operation is rampant. Fortunately the range won't be that great but I'd bet
that we'll see rogue repeaters appearing.
There have been some nearly free or free after rebate deals on GMRS
handhelds recently and when people asked about licenses the replies among
those on the forums was always FORGET IT they'll never catch you and why pay
the money and they can't enforce CB regulations and won't be able to with
GMRS.
I guess that's what happens when the FCC gets hijacked by lawyers whose only
claim to fame is political connections and who don't know what RF is in the
first place. I think another monster has been created and we'll before long
find "5 pill" amplifiers being sold for GMRS and monster beams.

The old Class A allocation evolved into the FRS and GMRS service. Family
Radio Service is limited to 200mw and requires no license. GMRS requires a
permit.
