[Hallicrafters] What is the difference between the SX-99 and SX-100

What is the difference between a Chevrolet and a
Cadilac? The SX-99 is the Chevrolet!

They both do use the same "S" meter and they both were
made by Hallicrafters. Other than that, besides both
being general coverage receivers with about the same
frequency coverage, there are too many differences to
enumerate.

The SX-100 is dual conversion, the SX-99 single
conversion; the SX-100 has a gear driven dial and the
SX-99 has a dial cord arrangement; the SX-100 has a
"T" notch filter and the SX-99 has none; the SX-100 is
pretty stable after warm up the SX-99 - well it
receives AM OK; the SX-100 has both 3.2 ohm and 500
ohm outputs the SX-99 only has 3.2 ohm outputs.

As for prices, I have seen SX-99 receivers in good
shape go for as little at $60 and as much as $150.
The SX-100 receivers go for a "bit" more.

As for "mint" condition, finding one will be virtually
impossible! Mint means new, in the box, never been
used, etc. There are some excellent condition
receivers around that a few might be considered to be
"like new". But, the term "mint" is overused. Then,
there are some people who put a new coat of paint on
the receiver and try to sell it as "mint". No way!
But, that is another subject altogether!

I am a new member of this reflector and have a
question. If you had to choose between the SX-99 and
SX-100 which one would you purchase and why. This will
be my first Hallicrafter. Also, what should I expect
to pay for one in good to mint condition?
