Skip,

You might not need to do anything at all.  The pin size and spacing of 
FT-243 crystals will allow them to be plugged directly into octal 
sockets.  Homebrewers have routinely used octal sockets as dual crystal 
holders.  If your crystal is an FT-243 type and the wiring on the socket 
is compatible, you can just plug it in and you're done.  BTW small-pin 
crystals like the HC-6 types will plug into loctal sockets, too.
