I had a Heathkit SB-101 that jumped frequency, 20, 30 kHz.

I found a ceramic tube temperature compensating capacitor that
had never been soldered. This was in the factory built LMO.

The cold solder joint was at the loop of wire that wrapped
around the end of the capacitor tube.

Somehow this part made it out the door from the capacitor
manufacturer, into Heathkit's sub-assembly contractor, out that
door, into Heathkit as a working and aligned LMO.

It was shipped to a customer who never got the SB-101 working
right. The customer sent it back to Heath. Heathkit repair
missed the problem.

The customer gave up on it and sold it to me in the 1970's as
an "iffy" radio. I suffered with it for a few years and
finally opened the sealed LMO.

I found the problem with a half can of freeze spray and a
wooden probe by listening to the crystal calibrator jump
frequency as I poked around the radio.

The loop on the ceramic tube looked "dry". I soldered it and
that fixed the problem.
