Good Morning Ken --
Same thoughts on my SX-101A. It's my primary 10M AM receiver, and works
simply great!! So, I've avoided replacing the BB caps since I use the
receiver quite a lot.
It's been discussed here, or maybe there, or maybe in ER magazine....I can't
remember.... that BBs used where lower voltages are applied tend not to go
bad that fast. For instance, around the selectivity circuits. So, it may
be worth replacing those caps that are used in bypassing/coupling
applications etc and not worry about hard to get ones if lower voltages are
involved etc.
I've never owned an SX-100...yet... but check to see if there are any BB's
in the audio stage that, if they shorted, would place a direct short across
the audio transformer. That is on situation in which it's well worth it to
replace the associated caps.
Nice annotated photo BTW; I have it store on disk. Since I'm pretty color
blind, the only way I have to replace caps is to correlate their physical
placement with the schemtaic; and I've used a paper notebook for years to
make a "map" I don't trust myself with the colors. Of course, I could
just go buy an LC meter.....
