JW,
The electrolytic caps that need to be changed are in two locations. The
first location is in the aluminum can is located on the chassis in front of the
OA2 regulator tube. It contains C 87 A,B, and C. You will need to replace it
with a 60mfd, and two 20 mfd. rated for about 600 volts. The terminals on the
bottom of the can have a semicircle, a square, and no marking cutout in the
base. If you look on the side of the can it tells you using that code with
terminal goes with which value. The ground connection is the can itself.
I mounted the replacements on my SX-100 under the chassis. Be very careful
not to mix up the polarity of the new caps. Also remember to discharge the old
cap terminals to ground with a screwdriver as they can hold a painful charge.
You can obtain replacement caps from Mouser Electronics.
The second location is underneath the chassis near the 6K6 audio output
tube. You will find a 10 mfd at 50 volts there. On my rcvr it was lt. orange
in color, but can vary. Replace it too. This is a fine receiver and definitely
worth the trouble. By the way, where are you located? Maybe someone from the
list can lend some help if you run into a problem. 73 Mike KF6KXG
