If all else fails, you can rewire whatever transmitter
that you are using to use the 5894. The tube socket
is the same but you do have to wire the sections in
parallel and add plate caps. There was a modification
in Electric Radio several years ago about doing this
with the Globe Champion 300. The same modification
works fine on the Globe Champion 350 and the 350A.

When you put both sections of the 5894 in parallel it
has basically the same characteristics as the 9909
and, since the 5894 is designed for VHF and UHF
operation, it actually puts out about 5 watts, or so,
per tube than the 9909.

If you want to run even more power, you can use the
8643 which is the next step up from the 5894 and can
run about 30 watts, or so, per tube more power input.
The 8643 was used by Motorola in the MHT "high band"
Motracs for 110 watts output. The 5894 was used for
80 watts output in the earlier model Motracs.
Frankly, they were pretty much "loafing" in the
Motracs (both tubes).

I modified my Globe Champion 350A a couple of years
ago and it works fine with the 5894 tubes.
