Hi,
As a restorer of a few valuable boat anchors I use Dow Scrubbing Bubbles
without any lemon additive. This is the best cleaner I've ever used and
everything comes out looking new.
It is not harmful but must be rinsed well preferably with hot water and
dried with either air or hair dryer.
For very heavy corrosion I use CLR found in super markets.
Two things NOT to use on is bakelite and lettering that is put on with a low
grade paint. Always test first.
Coating with Pledge as mentioned is a very good idea.
To brighten up aluminum use Mothers Aluminum Polish or Brasso.
