History: about a month ago, I adopted a Hallicrafters SX-100. A fellow
used it for SWL'ing for 20 years, replaced it with an ICOM R-71, and
threatened to pitch it in the trash, "if someone doesn't give it a good
home."
I brought it home and it shares my long wire antenna with an SB-303,
Signal/One CX7A, and ICOM IC-720A.
Woo-hoo. The SX-100 is a different kind of radio from the others.
The fellow gave me a Lafayette speaker and a digital display, 1 kHz
readout!!! What more do you need? No 10 Hz or even 100 Hz digit
position. Silly, an SSB signal is 3 kHz wide, 1 kHz readout is good
enough.
I noticed that a big knob was missing a "bright" and bid on one on
eBay. Found out it was for an SX-85 small knob so I stopped bidding at
$5.00. The trim disk went for $10. plus shipping!! I guess someone
really wanted it.
I mentioned it to the "giver" and he told me that if I gave him both
knobs, he would make a trim disk. I had a friend drop the knobs off at
his office along with a well padded SASE.
I got the knobs today. Wow-wee.
It is a nearly perfect match. The only thing that lets me tell the
repro from the original is that the repro has a tiny flat at the tip.
The light reflects the same. The metal color is a perfect match. Both
have similar "tooling" marks on the finish.
de ah6gi/4 cruizin' the bands with a boatanchor.
