The 80s was a good time for buying old tube type equipment of all sorts.
Lived in Virginia during most of that time and I was, frequently, the only
person
at a ham fest buying the stuff.  I have passed up such stuff as SR-400 and
SR-2000s
for as little as $75.  Bought lots of R-390s (both models) for $50 and less.

The 1980s seem to be the best time to have bought those radios.  I had to
lug a nice, recapped SX-42 to a hamfest several times before selling it for
$25.00 in the late '80s.  That was with the original manual, too.  Wish I'd
kept it.
