The Yaesu FT-101 had perhaps the worst receiver of any "modern" radio. I
tried all of the Fox-Tango Mods. to make it work and the results were just
marginal. The receiver would wilt under in the presence of strong adjacent
channel signals.
That said, it was a fun "portable/mobile" radio that did a basic job and was
not too expensive for the times.
Collins made good solid radios, Ten-Tec makes great radios.....

quality thing, or a bad timing thing? At least on the surface, it looks
like Hallicrafters made a transition to a solid state transceiver with tube
driver and final, like Yaseu and Kenwood. What happened?
