Hi Lee, Thanks for your comments and insight on the FPM-300 and why it didn't work out.  Yes it was a nice effort and I think Hallicrafters turned the corner from tube to solid state with the FPM-300, but just go the distance.   Well thats what makes it so puzzling to understand what happened because the FPM-300 was solid state with tube driver and finals just like the TS-820 and FT-101 but it sure didn't sell like the 520 or 101.  

I've heard of the FPM-300 plain, then a followup model the 300 MK II Safari.  I wonder if those were the two FPM-300 models made.  I did see reference to a later FPM that was all solid state but I know even less about that model.  

Hmm, never heard of the early Drake TR-5 prototypes.  I check it out on the Virtual Museum.  I did read about the later TR-7 and final TR-5 offerings and what happened there.  Drake was another company who was able to turn the corner and should have come out in good shape but didn't.   Ditto for Atlas.
