I've serviced several sets in which every single "Black Beauty" cap has
been bad. Depending on their function within a circuit, their leakage
can render permanent damage to other, sometimes irreplaceable components
(like chokes and transfomers). Please change them now before turning on
the receiver again.

I'll warn you, though -- some so-called "purists"will argue that a
component should be replaced only if it tests bad (and can't be
"reformed" -- like a naughty kid). That's a nice sentiment, but can
prove injurious to your equipment -- and you, too, if your house should
burn down because a 50-year old badly designed capacitor should suddenly
decide it's time to go, literally, "splitsville". And if the
conflagration spreads to neighbors' houses.... well, only a personal
injury lawyer could be happy about that.

Besides, you can always sell your salvaged Black Beauties to audiophiles
for 15 bucks apiece. Some of these guys are crazier than we are. They
swear these caps make a vintage amp sound better than any modern
component can. KABOOM! (Nice bass response).

Enjoy your radio (after recapping).

Craig
