[Hallicrafters] HT-32B 7360 Modulator Balance

Mark,
I didn't think of a mu metal shield. My HT-32B does not have one on the
7360. I'll see about getting one.
I guess another solution is to change the 7360 to a 6AR8. The 6AR8 doesn't
seem to have the problem with external magnetic fields disturbing the
balance (or at least not nearly as great) and they are a whole lot cheaper.
You can buy a box full of 6AR5's for the price of one 7360. I know that
this is a modification that a lot of Swan owners have done to their rigs.

Interesting. I'll try that on my HT-32B this weekend. I don't recall
having any issues with carrier suppression but it may be fun to play
with.
I have some other transceivers with 7360's and note that at least one of
them has a mu-metal shield over the balanced modulator tube. These were
frequently used to shield CRT's from stray magnetic fields but there are
likely some still available for 9 pin min tubes as well.
