Forgot to mention, the S-38EM manual states using the RETMA
antenna only during the RF alignment procedure, not during
the IF alignment procedure.
In the RF alignment, the wording is as follows:
"High side thru RETMA antenna to terminal A1 on back of chassis.
Low side to chassis. Connect jumper between A2 and G."
Then the procedure is to tune for maximum output on your measuring
instrument which is a meter across the speaker leads.
I would image the "Dummy Antenna" is used to knock down the signal to
a manageable level and to provide a reasonable load to the signal
generator.
