I have a question that I hope that some of the smart people on this
forum can help me with. I was reading about INRUSH current limiters.
These sound like the perfect solution to protecting tubes during turn
on. They limit the current during turn-on for a couple of seconds with a
resistance of 120 ohms and quickly drop to around 2 ohms.
After hearing that neighbor WQ9E had good success with them, I ordered
some CL-60, CL-90 and CL-120's from Mouser. These are rated at 1.6A,
2.2A and 5A full load current, respectively. Cold resistance and time
constant varies. The CL-120's are fine for the smaller receivers. The
5A CL-60's are going into my HT32B.
I find all provide a short, but healthy for old iron delay in the
applied line voltage. They do get quite warm, so find a space to
install them where they can shed some heat safely.
Search Mouser for p/n 527-CL130 and you should find their catalog page,
complete with PDF spec files on each type.
